The Students’ Union (SU) is going to be an essential part of your life both
in the lead up to going to uni, and even more so once you arrive! As an
Essex student you're
automatically a member of the SU, which aims to ensure you
have the best possible time whilst you're here.
The SU is run by five student officers who are elected by Essex students. They know the University inside out and understand exactly what students want, and need.
The SU provides a range of services for its students. These include an advice centre to offer support across all areas of your new student life, an awesome entertainment programme (see days and nights out sections), lots of different venues to eat, drink and shop, a fortnightly student newspaper and a security minibus service.
You'll have plenty of opportunities to get involved with the SU. This is not only a great way to meet new people and have fun, but it'll also help you to gain loads of transferable skills which will look great on your CV!

The Students' Union has also set up an official Freshers 2009 Facebook group which you can check out, join and invite all your new mates to. We look forward to seeing you on there!
Don't forget that you're welcome to attend one of our Open Days throughout the year. If you want to get a feel for the campus, speak to some of the teachers or check out the accommo- dation on offer then it is a great idea to come to our campuses in the summer or autumn when we'll be running an Open Day.
