Financing Essex : paid work

A lot of students get a part-time job during term time, as well as working full-time in the holidays for extra cash. At Essex there are plenpound symbolty of places to find work. Bar staff are always in demand, but if you want to be drinking the drinks rather than serving them, then becoming a Student Ambassador and giving tours to prospective students might be more your thing. Getting a job in one of the University’s departments is a great way to boost your CV, plus they are really flexible when it comes to working through exams. Or, if you’re really energetic, then a job at the Sports Centre, or as a member of the SU security team could be perfect for you.

There are also a wide range of employment opportunities available to students in Colchester and the surrounding area. Places like Tesco, HMV and H&M are very student-friendly when it comes to recruiting part-time staff.

Bear in mind though that you’ve come to uni to get a degree and have fun, rather than spending all your time packing bags and selling CDs, so try not to work too many hours. 10 to 15 hours per week gives you a pretty good balance between work, study and play.

Whether you’re looking simply to increase socialising funds or you want to gain valuable work experience and improve your ‘transferable skills’ then it’s a good idea to register with JobsOnline. It can match you up with a job that will suit you and your time requirements. For more details go to the careers website.
