Colchester Campus - Southend Campus

Colchester Campus

The great thing about the Colchester Campus is that it’s close to all the major road, rail and air links - Stansted airport is less than an hour away and there's a regular bus service which operates between the uni and the airport seven days a week.

Restrictions on space mean that if you live on campus in your first year you can’t bring your own car, but why would you want to be a designated driver when all your friends are having fun?! Everything you need is right on your doorstep anyway, with Tesco a five minute walk away and regular buses to and from Colchester town and station. What’s more, the bus stops are situated on campus so you literally have to roll out of bed, jump on a bus and 15 minutes later you’ll be in town. And if you are feeling particularly energetic you could even walk - it'll only take you about half an hour!

If you have a little more cash to splash then taxis run from the town and station and they can collect you from uni too, but if you are planning a particularly heavy night out then remember to book first. This will save you waiting for an hour, and the pre-booked taxis are MUCH cheaper than the metered taxis- avoid these at all costs as your trip will cost you twice as much! The cycle signmetered ones usually sit on the High Street whereas the taxis which can be pre-booked have specific phone numbers on the side of the cars - Hawaii Five O, Town Cars and Five Sevens are the most reliable.

Southend Campus

The Southend Campus is also served by great road, rail and air transport links. It has the additional benefit of being located right in the middle of the town centre. Therefore not only have you got all of the shops, restaurants and everything else that you could want, right on your doorstop, it's also just a short walk to the train stations. There's an excellent local bus service throughout the week and at weekends. There are no restrictions on students at Southend bringing their cars with them, and if you do want to drive to campus there are a couple of car parks nearby. Stansted airport is just over a hour away and is the home to cheap airlines, so it's really handy if you want to take a trip to the continent.

If the Big Smoke of London is somewhere you want to visit during your time at uni, whether it's for shopping, clubbing or visiting mates then you'll be happy to know that Southend is served by two major railway lines: the c2c service from Southend Central (adjacent to the Campus) to London Fenchurch Street and the 'National Express East Anglia' service from Southend Victoria to London Liverpool Street. Both services reach London in approximately 50 minutes.
