Your first year is designed to help ease you
into uni life gradually, so when it comes to studying for exams
try not to worry too much. In most cases first year
marks don’t go towards your final degree grade, and you'll only need to achieve
a pass rate of forty percent to go through to your second year. This can help to
take the pressure off, especially when there are so many other things to get
used to. However, it's worth putting a bit of effort into revision as then you
won’t find the transition into your second and third years (when the hard work
really begins!) as difficult, and all the practice you put in will put you ahead
of the game in the long run.
Each department will have a different examination method - some use multiple choice tests whereas others will be timed essay questions. But don’t worry - your department will provide you will all the information you need - such as online past papers to practice. For more information, visit your department's website.
Don't forget that you're welcome to attend one of our Open Days throughout the year. If you want to get a feel for the campus, speak to some of the teachers or check out the accommo- dation on offer then it is a great idea to come to our campuses in the summer or autumn when we'll be running an Open Day.
