As you're probably aware, in many subjects the mark you get in your first
year at uni doesn't count towards your final degree mark so if you don't do as well as you could have, then it's not the end
of the world.
All students are different, some want to work as hard as they can
academically, throughout their whole degree to achieve the best grade they can,
others may split their time between getting involved in loads of clubs and
societies as well as studying for their degree, whilst some may just do enough
work to scrape through exams and assessments.
Which ever route you decide to take it's almost inevitable that at some point you'll have to pay a visit to the Library . During exam time you may even relish the calm and quiet it provides. Although saying this, it also becomes quite a social scene! People don't go out as much during the exam period, so you'll probably find yourself stopping to catch up with a million different people on the way to that quiet corner you have chosen to hide yourself away in. The best way to avoid this is to study on a floor which isn't where your course books are located - then you don't bump into everyone you know!
Students at Southend have the choice between using the library next door at SEEC - all of the Southend course books are located there, or alternatively they can order books from the Library at the Colchester Campus (there is a courier service which runs everyday to take books between campuses).
The Library at the Colchester Campus (rumoured to have been built upside down by mistake) has one very quirky aspect to it - it's the famous paternoster lifts! These have got to be some of the most unusual lifts most people have ever seen - constantly moving and without doors, so you just jump on when it gets to your floor. This obviously sounds very random and perhaps slightly frightening! But don't worry, you're not going to be risking life and limb every time you want to go to the next floor, they do move pretty slowly!
Don't forget that you're welcome to attend one of our Open Days throughout the year. If you want to get a feel for the campus, speak to some of the teachers or check out the accommo- dation on offer then it is a great idea to come to our campuses in the summer or autumn when we'll be running an Open Day.
